Antonina Cattari

Antonina  Cattari was born in Vita, Sicily in the 1920s, and she moved to Toronto in 1956.

Antonina’s mother raised her and her family to maintain Jewish traditions – though nobody ever spoke of them as such.

It wasn’t until her granddaughter, Laura Cattari, recognized a Jewish melody as the one that her Catholic grandmother would sing to her as a child,  that Antonina and her family were confronted with the possibility of being descendants of Jewish Italians.
